Maggie May TherapyCounselling & Psychotherapy in Aldwick & Chichester, West Sussex

About Me . Me

When I was in my teenage years I had a great interest in peoples life stores and reading autobiographies. I was drawn to hearing about how people had overcome adversity, and personal life struggles. I began my working life in BT - British Telecom so you could say I have always been in the field of communication.

My journey into counselling and psychotherapy really began in 2007. I gained experience throughout the years working with clients, in various placements such as MIND, and other charity low cost counselling centres. I gained further experience through my private practice, which I began when I initially qualified in 2012.

I am very interested in neuroscience and the connection established between, the mind, body and spirit, and the impact this can have on each one of us. I am curious about how our mind shapes our relationships and our attachment to others.

Maybe just as important, is how our mind influences our perceptions, and how that can have an impact on how we interact with others. It can also have an impact on our physical health as well as our mental health. The perception of ourselves is an important part of who we are. It is interesting to think about and to explore how our life experiences as children and subsequently through the years have moulded us.

Your past experiences can have an impact on relationships, both personally and professionally, and at times could prove difficult to manage. Gaining a greater understanding of your responses helps to build a stronger sense of self and allows you to makes healthier choices.

I love Creative Art Therapy, as this is a gentle yet powerful medium to allow you to explore your inner world. It enables you to gain an understanding of your way of relating to others, as well knowing and understanding how you relate to yourself.

Images can bring alive your inner feelings, and allow those feelings to be transposed onto a page, opening a door into further exploration. This can bring about a deeper understanding, and meaning for you. Equally someone listening, and engaging with you, can be just as powerful and can lead to resolutions of personal issues or concerns.

I keep up-to-date by being committed to my own personal development, along with developments in the field of psychotherapy. I frequently attend conferences, on areas of interest, and allow myself to participate in new and exciting methodologies.

I am fully supervised for all my work with young people and adults.

I have a current DBS certificate & Full Public Liability Insurance

I am a registered member of BACP British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and the UKCP UK Council for Psychotherapy, and I adhere to their Code of Ethics and professional guidelines.
